A slow and motionless death
It has been ten years that they live under a polluted patch of sky that hangs over Porto Romano, this way being victims of a silent curse. There are fifteen thousand residents who do not know the truth about the contamination of the land with lethal substances. They do not know where their suffering comes from, but they do what they can to prevent the Leather Factory from re-opening. Missing....
The exact number of Albanian civilians killed during the Kosovo war is unclear. This number is generally claimed to be around 10,000, although several foreign forensic teams were unable to verify the exact amount. Some of the largest mass graves were cleared before the war's end in an apparent effort to obliterate potential war crimes evidence. As of July 2001, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) had exhumed approximately 4,300 bodies believed to have been victims of unlawful killings by Serbian and Yugoslav forces in Kosovo. This is certainly less than the total number of civilians killed by government troops. Family members of the missing, in an effort of making their cause heard, have displayed pictures of their relatives in the capital of Kosova, Prishtinė, hoping that someone might come forward with any information about their fate.

Pilgrims in Shna Ndo
People from all religious backgrounds come to St. Anthony of Padua shrine in Lac, northern Albania, in a pilgrimage that one hopes to bring healing. For almost 50 years, religious beliefs were forbidden in Albania. No one was allowed to profess religion during Communism. No religious institutions were permitted. Albania was thus the first official atheist country in the world. That brief rule has reversed and crowds of all faiths go there each June 12 to worship this holy place.
