Missing....
|
The exact number of Albanian civilians killed during the Kosovo war is unclear. This number is generally claimed to be around 10,000, although several foreign forensic teams were unable to verify the exact amount. Some of the largest mass graves were cleared before the war's end in an apparent effort to obliterate potential war crimes evidence. As of July 2001, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) had exhumed approximately 4,300 bodies believed to have been victims of unlawful killings by Serbian and Yugoslav forces in Kosovo. This is certainly less than the total number of civilians killed by government troops. Family members of the missing, in an effort of making their cause heard, have displayed pictures of their relatives in the capital of Kosova, Prishtinė, hoping that someone might come forward with any information about their fate.
